The transition from 2nd to 3rd grade is a big one, and I want to help you understand what that means for your child. In 3rd grade, there’s a noticeable shift in responsibility, expectations, and pace. We move from learning to read, to reading to learn. Students are expected to be more independent, take ownership of their work, and manage multiple-step directions on their own.
Academically, we move much faster. There’s a lot more content to cover, and the skills build quickly—especially in reading comprehension, writing, and math problem solving. We also focus more on critical thinking, not just getting the right answer, but explaining the "why" behind it.
Behaviorally and socially, we continue to support students, but there’s a bigger push for accountability, time management, and collaboration with others. It’s a big year of growth, and we’ll work together to make sure your child is supported every step of the way.
