Class Dojo and Blurty Blurts and Wiggle Worms
We will be using Class Dojo points and Blurty Blurts/ Wiggle Worms this year to help encourage and promote appropriate school behavior.
Class Dojo
As mentioned, we’ll be using ClassDojo as our main communication tool, but it’s also a big part of our classroom behavior system! Students will be able to track their daily points, customize their Dojo character, play games, and redeem points for fun rewards throughout the year.
The point system is based on behavior, work habits, and academic achievement. Students can earn points for things like showing exceptional behavior, completing stellar work, and earning 100% on tests. All of which demonstrate our classroom expectations by S.O.A.R.ING (Showing Self-control,On-task behavior,Achievement,Respect).Points can also be taken away when expectations aren’t met.
Throughout the year, students can use their points at the ClassDojo Store to “buy” fun prizes like treasure box items, pencils, special privileges (like wearing a hat in class), or even sharing a favorite joke with the class!
Blurty Blurts and Wiggle Worm Behavior Chart
We’ll also be using a visual behavior tool called Blurty Blurts and Wiggle Worms. Each student starts the day with two “Blurty Blurt” magnets and two “Wiggle Worm” magnets. Things like talking out of turn, interrupting, or chatting during quiet times will result in losing a Blurty Blurt. Things like being off-task, moving around without permission, making bad choices, or not paying attention will result in losing a Wiggle Worm. If a student loses two of their Blurty Blurts or Wiggle Worms in one day, it will result in a PR Point.
Of course, I always give verbal reminders and grace — I know they’re still learning, and third grade can move fast! But I also work hard to help students take responsibility for their actions and develop strong habits that set them up for success. The Blurty Blurt and Wiggle Worm chart is not meant to scare kids but rather redirect their behaviors. That’s why there isn’t a serious punishment until the behavior of that day has become repetitive. Every day students will restart with two Blurty Blurts and two Wiggle Worms!
